A poem about my brief encounter with Gloriana from Canada.  She was nineteen and I was twenty.  We worked together in a restaurant in my hometown of Croydon, back in 1980.
— Een gedicht over mijn ‘brief encounter’ met Gloriana uit Canada. Ze was negentien en ik was twintig. We werkten in 1980 samen in een restaurant in mijn geboorteplaats Croydon.

We met each other,
while we worked together,
she was pretty,
she was charming,
she was delightful to be with,
she was thoughtful and kind,
we got on well together,
we would look after each other,
but sometimes she was sad,

one winter's evening,
after a busy shift,
we went out together,
with a group of friends,
by the time the evening was over,
a snowstorm had hit,
the only way home,
was for us to walk,
I could not leave her by herself,
to walk alone in the storm,
so, I accompanied her home,
an hour in a blizzard,

by the time we reached her home,
we were soaked to the skin and cold,
without inhibition,
she took of her wet clothes,
in front of me,
she was desirable,
and had the most perfect body,
naked she jumped into bed,
and invited me to join her,
as we held each other,
our bodies warmed,
and we embraced each other,
until the morning,

for the next few days,
I was on leave,
when I returned to work,
she was no longer there,
she had left me a letter,
and thanked me for our night together,
she had decided to return to Canada,
to try again with an ex,

I may have found her,
at a moment in time,
when she needed someone,
to feel their touch,
for someone to hold her,
and to comfort her,
she was gentle spirit,
to this day,
I still have fond memories of her,
and I hope she found the love she was looking for.
